"And That Is All"
© 1991 Dave Puls
2:54
Ch: And it's whispering your name
You are unique to this world
You need to let your flag be unfurled
To be who you are and that is all
The sun has sprouted your seed
The warmth has lifted your head
And now you know what you know
And that is all

Behind the Song:
When I wrote this song in 1991 I was a Rehabilitation Counselor at the Rochester Psychiatric Center. Every Wednesday evening I would bring in my guitar and we would have a sing-a-long in the library. The first verse was written very much with my "patients" in mind. It offered me a chance to convey my love for them outside my official job capacity.
By the time I was writing the chorus I was very much singing to all of us, myself included.
When I truly have this sense of singing to myself from somewhere outside myself, I feel elevated, comforted and highly motivated to live my life with positive intent.
This came all together in the second verse as I realized how much life was beckoning me to lift my head and flower, to reveal all that I had been singing about for 20 years. A risky venture at best. The great debate within myself was, if I enjoy my songs why risk them being beaten up by an often sarcastic and jaded public.
By the end of the song I have answered the debate and happily have come to realize that I know what I know and that is all.
In the end it is only my own foolish pride, my ego, that has the potential to do great damage.
